A World Marathon Majors race, Berlin is famed for its record-breaking race course, mild weather, and legendary crowd of supporters turning the race into one giant marathon festival. The Berlin Marathon is frequently referrred to as one of the best-organized marathons on the planet. It will be held on Sunday 24th September 2023.
The race course is flat, and winds through both East and West Berlin, and takes in some of Berlin’s most historic landmarks, lots of live music, and a grand finish through the iconic Brandenburg Gate. Berlin features temperate weather with average September temperatures of 11-19 C range and an above-average share of sunshine.
Since 2003, all marathon world records have been run in Berlin, with the latest world record set in 2022 by Eliud Kipchoge (Kenya) with a time of 2:01.09, eclipsing his previous world record of 2:01.39 set in 2018 on the same course. Kenenisa Bekele (Ethiopia) also did an outstanding time of 2:01.41 at the Berlin Marathon 2019. This marathon is a must-do race for runners seeking to achieve a personal best time and possibly meet the qualifying time for the Boston Marathon. However, with a generous cut-off time of 6:15h it also caters to the slower peers among us.
